These are just a few of the lessons combined in ‘my’ style
US ArtQuest meet Letter Love 101
I love to combine materials and ideas and this month for my design team project with US ArtQuest (you can go there to get the directions)…I used some Studio Cloth, the sewing machine, and some Mica Watercolors and created something a little Ann, a litte Joanne and really rich in color and sparkle.
I added to the art sandbox journal that i keep. I hated the thing under it, so I made it pretty by adding this with a little Perfect Paper Adhesive.
Hope it makes you smile.
Letter Love 101
The amazing Joanne Sharpe, coincidentally located in a suburb of Rochester right next to where I grew up, has this amazing, very doable online class. So we have had 11 lessons to date and here are some of my highlights: I had to skip lesson with the circle thing, it made me dizzy – aka I hate compasses …..
- Letter Love
- Letter Love Abstract.
- Letter Love Composition
- Doodle Letters
Fun, New technique

- My Four Valentines – watercolor abstract

Valentines, in progress
I almost hate to admit this – I BUY valentines. (Um I have also proudly purchased everyone of my children’s birthday cakes – Auntie Sue disapproves…) So I thought for kicks, I would make them this year.
Sneak Peak at the ‘pieces’.
Experiments in Mono-printing
I have always avoided mono-printing becuase it requires a lot of space – layout the glass, room for the prints to dry, yada, yada. This month for my US ArtQuest Design Team project, I was trying to find a quick way to cheat the encaustic process that did not work, but this did – mono-printing. I have seen demonstrations with a gelatin mono-print, but my refrigerator is already over crowded with ‘teenager’ food – so that was just not an option.
This is the first mono print I have tried with this techniaue, and the tutorial will be posted on the USArt Quest Blog on the today…. stay tuned as I play with this some more.
Random Inspiration by Words Alone
As a mostly visual artist, I am sometimes inspired by comedic words alone. Here are a couple of comments that made me want to get out the bright colors and get busy. They also made me think and if we have ever met in person, you know my brain is operating entirely in it’s own universe. (Unfortunately, the authors didn’t identify themselves – so if you know – please tell me ):
“as I lay in bed, looking at the stars, I wonder… where the heck is the ceiling?”
“If Barbie is so popular, why do you have to buy her friends?”
“The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don’t want, drink what you don’t like, and do what you’d rather not.” – Mark Twain (I really think if I was around when he was alive, we would have been close friends.)
have an awesome day. – Ann
